Geoffrey opens BBC SSO Nielsen cycle, to acclaim
Geoffrey stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Thomas Dausgaard to open the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s cycle of Nielsen symphonies, conducting the ‘Sinfonia Espansiva’ in a programme also featuring Bartók’s Divertimento and a new piano concerto by Erika Fox. Press acclaim was unanimous: the Telegraph praised his ‘winning combination of assuredness, agility and enthusiasm’, while Vox Carnyx wrote ‘conducting the piece without a score, Paterson was in precise control of the dynamics of the work as surely as if his hand was on a volume dial as well as clearly having a picture of the entire work, in all its colourful variety, in his head from start to finish. It was a superb performance of the symphony.’
